The South Ribble Conservative Association have confirmed Seema Kennedy as the parliamentary candidate for the 2015 General Election, following a selection process by local party activists.
Local Association members overwhelmingly voted for Seema, following the decision by the current Member of Parliament, Lorraine Fullbrook, not to stand again for personal reasons in 2015.
The local Conservative Association Chairman, Phil Smith, said “I’m really looking forward to working with Seema Kennedy, she was the stand out candidate from a list of excellent applicants, we aim to build on the excellent work Lorraine has done on behalf of the community since 2010.”
“The Association has a strong team of Councillors’ and volunteers, ready to support Seema in delivering electoral victory in the 2015 general election. I wish to thank the many who have shown an interest in the position.”
A high number of applications were received to represent the Conservative Party, who are defending a 5,554 majority, after winning the seat from Labour in 2010.
Seema Kennedy said “I’m humbled and honored to have been selected as the Parliamentary candidate for South Ribble, the residents of the constituency will be my first priority and I’ll be working every hour in every day on their behalf. It’s a great Association, people have been very warm in welcoming me and I can’t wait to get stuck in."
Lorraine Fullbrook MP couldn’t hide her pleasure, “I’m absolutely delighted that Seema Kennedy is the new Conservative Party candidate for South Ribble and I'm pleased a women will be following in my footsteps. I’ll be cheering her on when we declare that she will be the next Conservative member of Parliament for South Ribble and I’ll be helping her every step of the way."
