Road Improvements

Date
Tuesday, 17th June 2014
Time
5.30pm to 7.30pm

An information event is being held at Penwortham Community Centre on Tuesday, 17 June from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, to allow members of the public to find out more about the planned improvements to roads and public spaces in South Ribble.

Planners and engineers from Lancashire County Council will be on hand to talk through work to reduce congestion on the A582 scheduled to take place from mid-July 2014 to March 2015.

Further to the work currently taking place to widen the junction at Chain House Lane, the second phase of work on the A582, will make the section of Golden Way from Cop Lane towards Preston into a dual carriageway, changing the road layout and introducing traffic signals on the Leyland Road roundabout.

Later this year, the section of Golden Way from Cop Lane to the Broad Oak roundabout will also be widened to a dual carriageway, and traffic signals introduced at Stanifield Lane roundabout to improve traffic flow.

Planners from South Ribble Borough Council will also be available to present proposals for future improvements being planned as part of the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal.

By providing new road capacity along the A582, there is predicted to be less traffic along existing routes and through a number of local centres.

The A59 through Penwortham and Leyland Road through Lostock Hall, Tardy Gate and Lower Penwortham are local routes and centres that will benefit from the reduction in traffic.

South Ribble Borough Council is also developing plans with local residents and businesses to improve the main shopping area of Penwortham. The plans will be designed to make Penwortham more attractive to encourage shoppers and visitors.

In the longer term, further improvements will be made to the public realm to take full advantage of the reduced traffic levels. The proposals will be published once they have been fully developed, but planners are keen to take this early opportunity to discuss them with residents.
