Yet again South Ribble excelled itself when it came to Christmas celebrations as families flocked to Leyland town centre for its annual "Christmas in Leyland" event.

Crowds packed out Hough Lane to watch children from The Place Community Centre officially switch on the Christmas tree lights after winning a community nativity scene competition.

The scene will be displayed throughout December in the Gateway reception at South ribble Borough Council's headquarters - Civic Centre. They also received a £100 art and craft voucher.

Leyland Market and Leyland My Neighbourhood Forum also helped with festive celebrations, together with the help of numerous community groups.

There were also stalls selling festive produce, free cookery and food tasting demonstrations at Leyland Market, live music at venues around the town, free children's activities and much more.

Conservative Councillor Phil Smith, cabinet member for regeneration, leisure and healthy communities, said:"The whole community pulled together to create Leyland's best-ever Christmas event, it really was fabulous. There were lots of children enjoying the festive activities and the parents were happy too with free parking in Leyland.

"The events at Leyland Market, including cooking demos and taster sessions seemed to go down particularly well and the pubs, restaurants and coffee shops were also busy hosting live music by local artists. I'd like to thank everyone involved in organising this fabulous event."
