Press release from Lancashire County Conservative Group
The Labour Administration, backed by the LibDems, has caused alarm amongst the whole of the workforce at County Hall by announcing that 2,500 jobs will have to go. This number has been arrived at by the simple mathematical calculation of dividing the total employee savings required by the average salary.
Leader of the Conservative group, Cty Cllr Geoff Driver, commented:
“This is meaningless, because the Administration has not said which County Council services will be prioritised to continue and it doesn't even take account of which services are statutory and which are discretionary.”
“It is therefore more than likely that far more than 2,500 jobs will go. We are talking about employees who provide key services to the people of Lancashire.”
“Further, the Administration's so-called guarantee that there will be no compulsory redundancies before 31st March 2016 is not worth the paper it is written on because it is subject to there being sufficient voluntary redundancies before then.”
