The rapid progress of the Superfast Lancashire project means that more than half (52 per cent) of Lancashire can now get access to high-speed fibre broadband. That means that 350,000 homes and businesses are now reached by this method.
County Councillor Michael Green, Conservative Group Spokesman for Economic Development, said: “This is a great achievement and I am hopeful that 97 per cent of the county will have access to superfast broadband by the end of next year.
“Superfast broadband is hugely important for the county, both economically and socially. It enables people in Lancashire to do things in ways they've never been able to do, supporting them to work, learn, be entertained and to communicate with friends & family.”
“Superfast broadband will boost the economy and support local communities. Small businesses will be able to interact with colleagues, customers and suppliers more effectively and upload information more quickly. That's why the then Conservative Administration at County Hall invested heavily in its development.”
Superfast Lancashire is a partnership between Lancashire County Council and BT,
with additional funding from the Government’s Broadband Delivery UK, as well as the European Regional Development Fund and neighbouring unitary councils.
In addition to the roll-out of high-speed broadband across the county, a Business
Support Centre has opened in Leyland as part of Superfast Lancashire. The Centre’s specialists advise small and medium-sized businesses how to use the new technology to enhance their business.
