It is with profound sadness that South Ribble Conservative Association relay the news of the passing of Councillor Tom Blane at the age of 78 on the 9th of September. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
Councillor Tom Blane, who represented North Meols on West Lancashire Borough Council in the South Ribble Parliamentary constituency, was a caring man who worked hard in the interest of his residents providing them with a strong voice throughout his time as a Councillor. He was originally elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019
A gentleman and popular local Councillor he was a positive and active member of the community.
Beloved by his family as a husband, father and grandfather, the 78-year-old was also fondly remembered for running the Southview Lodge Care Home in Hesketh Bank and was respected across the political divide by those who knew him as a Conservative Councillor.
“He truly cared for each and every one of us at Southview Lodge, residents, staff and friends. None of the staff ever thought of Tom as our boss, he was our Grandad, Dad, Uncle & Friend.
“He brightened each resident’s day with his infectious smile, kind heart & his organ playing. A kind, thoughtful, generous man who made us all feel very much a part of his family.
“We send all our love and support to Sue and all the family. We love you Tom, forever in our hearts and thoughts, Rest in Paradise."
Katherine Fletcher MP for South Ribble, described Tom as “a good friend and recalled his help during her time campaigning and getting to know the village of Banks and its surrounding area.”
She said: “Tom’s death has come as a huge shock – I will miss his wise advice delivered in unmistakable Scottish brogue. He was a hardworking and dedicated local councillor, but more than that he was a gentleman.”
“He leaves a huge legacy to the community he served. I always knew that if I needed help, I could rely on Tom and his incredible local knowledge. He will be greatly missed, and I send my sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”
Tom’s funeral service will take place at All Saints Church, Hesketh Bank, at 1pm on Tuesday 21st September.
Before that, past and present staff of Southview Lodge have been asked to join residents and relatives in forming a guard of honour along the driveway of the care home.
